Cityspace: Spaces to breath and reflect in the city of Edinburgh

Funding and Organisation

Cityspace is a charity (Scottish charity number: SC038421). Promotional material (including this website) is facilitated by generous gifts of time, money and expertise from individuals and organisations. If you would like to make a donation, or would appreciate information on our financial management guidelines, please contact us.

Who is Cityspace for?

Cityspace is for anyone in Edinburgh who would appreciate finding a quiet space or reflective event in the city.

The Cityspace website is also available to organisations wanting to promote reflective spaces and events that are in harmony with the Cityspace criteria. This includes, but is not limited to, faith groups, arts organisations and local councils.

No allegiance to a particular worldview, belief, religion or sprituality is required to visit the spaces or events listed on the site.

Who organises Cityspace?

A Holding Group, of a maximum of 12 people, facilitates Cityspace. The Group’s members share a Christian background, are committed to the exploration of faith and prayer and recognise the value of integrating quiet, reflective moments in everyday life. The Holding Group is committed to make reflective space more accessible to others. Cityspace has grown out of conversations between a diverse group of people and has not been commissioned by an existing organisation.

To be effective, Cityspace relies on individuals and organisations posting spaces and events on the site. If you know of a space, or an event that is not here, but meets the criteria, please get in touch.

Cityspace Glossary

Definitions of some terms used on this website:

  • Reflective - on this site 'reflective' refers to space, events or conversations which provide a place for someone to freely explore what is happening for them rather than one in which they are told what is happening in/to them or what should be happening in/to them.
  • Spiritual conversation - on this site 'spiritual conversation' refers to a conversation that is focused on exploring a person's relationship with God/ the Transcendent/ Mystery (however they may conceive God). Spiritual conversation encourages reflection on this interaction or relationship, and explores how this impacts the way they live and make choices
  • Trained prayer/spiritual guide - on this site 'prayer/spiritual guide' refers to someone that simply listens and accompanies a person as they explore how God/the Transcendent is acting in their life. Cityspace advocates that these guides are trained and receive ongoing supervision.
